The company produced a bicycle lamp in 1927 which was its first product and was marketed under the brand named as National, which means “relating to people or nation”. Phillip Morris, the London-based cigarette manufacturer, created a New York subsidiary in 1902 with the intention of promoting several of its cigarette brands on the American market. By 1924 they were advertising Marlboro as women’s cigarette under the slogan “Mild as May”.

Max Morgenthaler, the Nestlé’s coffee guru, and his team wanted to find a way to produce a qualitative cup of coffee that could be made simply, but yet would retain the coffee’s natural flavor. And they found the answer. The product was named Nescafe, using a combination of Nestle and café.
