11 INTERESTING WORLD RECORDS OF 2010
2010, the tenth year of 21st century which was designated as “The year of Biodiversity” and “The year of Youth” by United Nations has come closest to its end. We are about to enter 2011 in few days. The footprints of 2010 will leave behind some astounding facts and figures of which some have been enlisted as the World Records in Guinness World Records.
The first edition of “the Guinness Book of Records” was published in 1955 comprising of 197 pages. It is the most authentic source to which everyone refers to, when confirming records around the world in almost every field. Now let me introduce you to the eleven (11) interesting and amazing Records of 2010…
Largest Wine Glass
Measuring 2.40 m (7.87 ft) in height and 1.65 m (5.41 ft) in width was showcased in Beirut, Lebanon 29th October 2010.
Largest Soccer Ball
Weighing 650 kg and 15.66m in diameter, 5th July 2010 in South Africa. The ball takes 3.5 hrs to inflate.
Shortest Man of the World
2 ft 2.41 inches tall, named as Khagendra Thapa Magar from Nepal, 14th October 2010.
Highest Number of Crystals on a Wedding Dress
A Romanian Designer named as Cosmina Englizian designed a wedding dress with 43,008 crystals on it.
World’s Most Tallest Sand Sculpture
A Sculpture named as “Why is the Hummingbird King of All Animals” in Zhujiajian, Zhoushan City, China, is 22.43 meters (73 ft 7 in) tall.
Double Halloween Record of the World
David Finkle made two Halloween record in a day. First by carving his pumpkins face (ears, eyes, nose and mouth) in just about 20.1 seconds. Second record was to carve the most pumpkins in One (01) hour. David carved 102 pumpkins in an hour.
Greatest Number of Landmarks Illuminated for a Cause in 24 Hours.
38 global historic landmarks were illuminated in pink light over a 24-hour period of time as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign which gave rise to a new category in the list of Guinness World Records.
Most People Keeping a Football in the Air
In a city of China named as Yanji City, 1,062 participants tapped the football simultaneously for 11 seconds breaking the previous record of 792 participants.
World’s Longest Painting
It is 6,001.5 m in length and was prepared by 3000 participants (students).
World’s Largest Sushi Mosaic
The largest sushi was prepared at Shanghai World Expo, 20.13 meter square, comprised of 8,374 pieces of sushi.
Largest Human Awareness Ribbon of the World
3,952 Saudi Arabian Women gathered to make the World Record at The Ministry of Education Stadium, Jeddah, Rawdah District, Saudia Arabia. It was achieved by HRH Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan Al-Saud.
